UI Announces Grant Funding to Support 16 Arts and Culture Organizations in New Haven
Company awards $75,000 through Lighting Up The Arts Fund
NEW HAVEN, CT – May 9, 2023 – Building on its longstanding commitment to support arts and culture in the communities it serves, United Illuminating, a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), today announced the award of $75,000 in grant funding to 16 local arts organizations in New Haven. The grants, funded by UI’s Lighting Up The Arts program, will enhance the city’s arts and culture sector as a driver for economic development in the region. The awards were announced by UI President and CEO Frank Reynolds on Tuesday at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven.
“United Illuminating and Southern Connecticut Gas have powered Greater New Haven for more than 175 years, and recognize how vital the region’s arts and culture sector is to its identity,” said UI President and CEO Frank Reynolds. “When we invest in the arts, we are investing in a stronger, healthier, and more vibrant New Haven, and that is what we are working to achieve by awarding this grant funding and supporting the work of these tremendous arts organizations across the region.”

Since 2019, UI’s Lighting Up The Arts fund has provided $225,000 in funding to support the vitality and sustainability of Greater New Haven’s creative community by providing direct financial support for the region’s nonprofit arts and cultural organizations.

- New Haven Museum
- New Haven Symphony Orchestra
- New Haven Theater Company
- Whitneyville Cultural Commons
At the award ceremony in New Haven, Reynolds joined Dr. Keith Churchwell of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Noah Bloom of the Neighborhood Music School, City of New Haven officials, the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, and other community partners.
