NEW HAVEN, Conn. — June 13, 2024 — Through its flagship Lighting Up the Arts program, United Illuminating (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), today announced its award of $75,000 in grant funding to 19 local nonprofit arts organizations. The grant will enhance the arts and culture sector in its service area as a key driver of economic development in the Greater New Haven region and will support a variety of arts media, including music (e.g., the New Haven Symphony), theatre (e.g., Long Wharf Theatre), visual arts (e.g., Ely Center for Contemporary Arts), and video (e.g., Best Video). The awards were announced by UI President and CEO Frank Reynolds at the New Haven Museum, one of the recipients of the award funding.

“All of us in Connecticut are very fortunate to have a vibrant, creative, and diverse community of arts organizations rooted right here in the heart of our service area, and we at UI and our sister company, Southern Connecticut Gas, are proud to call them valued customers,” said Frank Reynolds, President & CEO of UI. “By investing in the arts, we invest in a stronger, healthier, and more economically prosperous region, which is why the Lighting Up the Arts grants we provide is such a key priority for us at UI. I am proud to support this tremendous consortium of organizations, and I look forward to their continued contributions to the essential arts and culture sector across our region.”

“We are so grateful to UI and its parent company Avangrid for this generous gift and their ongoing efforts to roll up their sleeves on behalf of the arts sector – for organizations of all sizes,” said Noah Bloom, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Music School. “This year’s awards include more grants to more organizations with smaller budgets, which highlights the benefits of the consortium/funder partnership model. We in the arts rejoice when corporate citizens see that investing in the arts is good for the community, good for business, and good for the local economy. Investing in local arts organizations shows real understanding, real care for the arts, and real leadership in corporate philanthropy. This is a true testament to how much UI understands the importance of our entire ecosystem.”
