UI Makes Significant Progress Restoring Power after Nor’easter

ORANGE, Conn. — Oct. 17, 2019 (1 p.m. EDT) — United Illuminating, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), is reporting significant progress restoring service to customers left without power after a strong Nor’easter brought soaking rains and gusty winds across the region.

Approximately 1,899 customers were without service as of 1 p.m. Thursday, down from a peak of nearly 9,500 Wednesday night. The company Thursday morning had more than 120 line and tree workers, plus support personnel, working on the restoration effort.

Gusty winds were expected to continue Thursday, and UI anticipates that additional outages may occur even while crews restore customers previously left without power.

UI follows a methodical restoration process that prioritizes public safety. After addressing public safety concerns, crews first work to address damage to critical electrical infrastructure, as well as outages that affect large numbers of customers. As these are restored, the focus shifts to smaller outages and individual customers.

Customers are advised to stay far away from downed utility lines, which can be live and dangerous even if they don’t appear energized. Never drive over a downed wire. Report them to UI at 800.722.5584 (800.7.CALL.UI). If there is an immediate danger, call 911.
