UI To Resume Regular Collections for Non-Residential Customers Only

ORANGE, Conn. — June 15, 2021 — United Illuminating (UI), Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc., will return to pre-COVID collections practices for non-residential customers.

UI, SCG and CNG urge commercial and industrial customers with outstanding balances to contact them to learn about available assistance. Until July 20, any customer, whether residential or non-residential, can sign up for a COVID-19 Payment Program plan to pay down balances over a period of up to 24 months with no fees or penalties.

Effective June 15, non-residential customers with accounts that are in arrears could be notified that they face disconnection unless they make a minimum payment or establish a payment plan with the company.

In response to the pandemic, UI, SCG and CNG stopped disconnecting customers for nonpayment in March of 2020, and also suspended late fees and deposits. Last month, the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority directed the companies to resume regular collections practices for non-residential customers only, effective June 15.

For residential customers, the companies will not resume disconnection for nonpayment and other collections practices until directed to do so by PURA.
Any customer who enrolls in a COVID-19 Payment Program plan will continue to be protected from service disconnection as long as they continue to meet the terms of their payment arrangement.
